The Cushing Chamber of Commerce 2009 Tomorrow’s Leaders met early Saturday for a tour of Cushing. The students met at Steer Inn at 8 a.m. and spent the day learning about their community.
After a breakfast provided by Steer Inn, the students were presented a Historical Cushing slide show by Tyson Branyan as well as a tour of Cushing. At 11 a.m. they traveled to the Cimarron Correctional Facility where they were given an inside look at the prison.
Next – a tour of the Cushing Police Department and presentation by the F.O.P. (Fraternal Order of Police). Then onto the Cushing Fire Department where they were prepared a scrumptious lunch of hamburgers with all the trimming and given a tour of the facility. They were also given information from the P.F.F.O. (Professional Fire Fighters of Oklahoma).
Next session , Sept. 17th, the group will travel Oklahoma City where they not only wil hear from motivational speaker Dr. Vince Orza, but receive a tour of OCU (Oklahoma City University) and a tour of the State Capitol.
Tomorrow’s Leaders is comprised of approximately 20 CHS juniors tapped as possible future leaders in the community. According to Bob Felts of the Cushing Chamber of Commerce, the selection is made based only on the student’s qualifications. Names are not known until after the selections are made.
