(Cushing, Okla.) Russ Thurman, President of Lions Club International, called the meeting to order today at 12:18 p.m. The agenda started with song and pledge by Lion Jerry Snyder. This was followed by request for prayers and the prayer with Pastor Kevin Clouse.
Lion Terry Brannon, Chairman of the Cushing Board of Commissioner’s spoke with club members concerning three different subjects regarding the City of Cushing: Meetings, Capital Improvement Projects, and the Cushing Pride Program.
The first item was the Open Meeting Act which came to be a law in October 1977. It says all meetings of public bodies, shall have specified times and places, convenient to the public and open to the public. Meetings that consist of public bodies are to be announced in advance by public notice that states the time and place where the meeting is to be held, as well as the subject or subjects being considered (topics). All public meetings must have three members present (majority) in order to conduct business.
Brannon also informed Lions regarding the types of meetings that can be held. The types are: regularly scheduled meeting, special meeting, emergency meeting, and a continued or reconvened meeting.
The second topic was Capital Improvement Projects, which include, but are not limited to: park equipment, signal light projects, water line replacement, building renovations, the animal shelter, and water project (water well). For more information on Capital Improvement items go to https://cityofcushing.com/ and look under the heading announcements.
The third and final topic Chairman Brannon spoke about was the newly-formed Cushing Pride Program that will be run by the people, and not a tax payer program, with a hope for the future of becoming a 501 3(C). The Cushing Pride Program will involve civic leaders, churches and various other groups. It will be a “lean into” or “on” your friends and neighbors program that is designed to help clean up the City of Cushing.
Cowboy Cadillac ticket sales are now underway at $5 per ticket or 7 tickets for $30. Contact Chairman Mary Kelly for more information on purchasing tickets at 405-762-6719.
