Sunnyside Elementary second graders Isaiah (Rossiter) Sheets, Colby Floyd and Champ Wright took the lead Monday night during the Cushing Board of Commissioners meeting opening ceremony.
Commissioner Evert Rossiter introduced the boys and asked them to lead commissioners and audience members in the National Pledge of Allegiance and a lesser-known pledge – the pledge to the Oklahoma state flag.
Rossiter handed out “cheat-sheets” to the adults in the crowd in preparation. The pledge will become a regular part of the opening ceremony at each Commission meeting.
The brief pledge is as follows:
“I salute the flag of the State of Oklahoma. Its symbols of peace unite all people.”
