(Stillwater, Okla.) — A Stillwater man accused of sexually battering and punching an older male relative with whom he was living has been jailed on $75,000 bail pending a Feb. 1 court appearance on a two-count charge.
If convicted in the alleged attack that happened four days after Christmas, Cory Alexander Jones, 29, could be incarcerated for as long as 11 years, according to court documents filed by prosecutor Debra Vincent last week.
In a petition for a protective order issued on Dec. 30, the alleged victim wrote, “During the afternoon of 12-29, Cory was acting weird. He said his daughter was in heaven. I pressed him as to what he was talking about. He said I knew (which I had no idea).
“He started standing behind me while I was watching TV so I told him to stop and he wouldn’t. I went to the bathroom to brush my teeth and he attacked me and was trying to take my pants off.
“I slapped him and he slugged me right in my lower mouth nearly knocking me out. Then he pulled my pants off and I was on the floor trying to escape and yelling for (a woman) to call 911. He had pulled his pants down.
“He continued this for a few minutes and somehow I got away to get outside for police. He has had a pattern of excess drinking and drug abuse…he gets mean when this happens. Twice this year he has stolen my car or truck in the middle of the night to do something.
“One year ago, he attacked his girlfriend’s parents threatening to kill them in Logan County,” where court records show that no criminal charges were filed in that alleged incident.
In the current case, Jones was arrested by Stillwater police at 11:58 pm on Dec. 29 at the residence where he was living with his older relative, court records show.
When Stillwater Police Investigator Charles Rivas asked the alleged victim what caused the fight, “He told me he does not know what made Cory snap the way he did. He believes that Cory is possibly under the influence of methamphetamine,” the affidavit alleged.
After being arrested, “Cory admitted to punching (the older man.) He told me he had to do it to save his family. I asked what he was saving his family from that would require him to punch (the older man.) Cory told me he punched him to save his family from the coronavirus,” the investigator alleged in his affidavit.
Four months earlier, Jones had been charged with drunk driving in Stillwater on Aug. 22, 2020, following a traffic stop by Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Mitchell Conley. Jones has been ordered to appear in court on Feb. 16 for a pre-trial hearing on that felony punishable by one to five years in prison on conviction.
Seven years ago, Jones was charged with actual physical control of a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol in Cherokee County, a misdemeanor for which he was placed on two years of probation in 2013 under a deferred sentence, court records show.
