(Stillwater, Okla.) — A 28-year-old Stillwater man was charged this morning with first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of a 20-year-old man, who was found dead at 2 am Sunday in the parking lot of the Blue Diamond Cabaret east of Stillwater.
Joaquin Daniel Ruiz-Medrano, who was being held without bail, was scheduled to be arraigned this afternoon, court records show.
Ruiz-Medrano had been booked into the Payne County Jail on Monday on suspicion of murder in the death of Marco Antonio De Leon, sheriff’s spokesman Rockford Brown said.
The victim was from Texas but reportedly had been an oilfield contract worker in the Cushing area, the spokesman told KUSH.
He was repeatedly shot following an altercation and struggle, the spokesman said.
“At this time, we do not believe the crime was drug-related,” the spokesman said.
“The Payne County Sheriff’s Office has requested assistance from the ABLE (Alcohol Beverage Laws Enforcement) Commission to investigate the possible sale of alcohol to underage customers at the Blue Diamond Cabaret,” the spokesman said.
Any witnesses to the homicide and possible alcohol law violations are asked to contact Sheriff’s Investigator Brandon Myers at 405-533-6816, the spokesman said.
