STILLWATER — A 31-year-old Stillwater man has been jailed on $100,000 bond pending an April 10 preliminary hearing on a charge of possessing child sexual abuse material after a prior conviction of making an indecent proposal to a six-year-old to whom he is related.
If convicted of possessing a Dropbox electronic storage account containing 57 images and videos depicting children engaged in sexual conduct or lewd exhibition, Justus Dillon Dawes could be given a 20-year prison term plus a $25,000 fine, court records show.
Dawes could be given an additional 11 years in prison plus a $11,000 fine if convicted of one count of failing to register as a sex offender and two counts of violating sex offender residence restrictions.
In his latest case, Dawes was arrested at 6:26 am on Feb. 12, according to an affidavit by Stillwater Police Detective Mary Kellison, who had received a Cyber Tipline Report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children on Jan. 15.
Dropbox Inc. reported that the username was Justus Dawes with a verified email address that uploaded a video file featuring two prepubescent children exposing themselves, the affidavit alleged.
After obtaining search warrants from a Payne County judge, the detective “was also able to seize an additional 56 files of child sexual abuse material,” the affidavit alleged.
Dawes had listed his home address on Nov. 10, 2025, as being on E. Hwy 105 of Wellston in Lincoln County and failed to register as a sex offender with the Oklahoma Department of Corrections and/or the Stillwater Police Department between Jan. 29 and Feb. 9 of 2026, court records alleged.
According to surveillance, Dawes lived for nine days between Jan. 29 and Feb. 9 of 2026 at a relative’s residence in the 3700 block of W. 19th Ave. in Stillwater, within 2,000 feet of Sangre Ridge Middle School, Renaissance Schools and Meridian Technology, which was prohibited for a sex offender, an affidavit alleged.
Dawes also stayed for two days between Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 of 2026 in the 2900 block of N. Perkins Road in Stillwater, within 2,000 feet of Van Horn Child Care and Kids World Learning Center, which was prohibited for a sex offender, an affidavit alleged.
Dawes had been released from prison to 20 years of probation in October of 2020, after serving four years and three months of a five-year incarceration for lewd or indecent proposals to a 6-year-old child at a relative’s Stillwater residence in 2013 when he was 19, court records show.
