STILLWATER — A felony charge of failure to register as a sex offender with the Payne County Sheriff’s Office has been dropped against a man who lists his mailing address as a Perkins post office box, but actually lives in Lincoln County, authorities said Friday.
Douglas Hugh Chadwick, 47, has registered as a sex offender with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Payne County Sheriff Noel Bagwell said Friday. Chadwick works in the Perkins area, Bagwell said.
The Payne County charge against Chadwick was dismissed by prosecutor Kathy Thomas when the case was scheduled for a preliminary hearing Wednesday, court records show.
Chadwick was convicted of sexual assault of a 14-year-old child while in a position of trust in El Paso County, Colo., in 1996, court documents allege.
Last July, Chadwick was convicted in Colorado of failing to register as a sex offender there and placed on supervised probation, an affidavit by Payne County Sheriff’s Community Corrections Clerk Tina Pierce said.
Chadwick moved to Oklahoma after Colorado removed the supervised part of the sentence, the affidavit said.
Last August, Chadwick registered as a sex offender with the Oklahoma Department of Corrections and was directed to contact the Payne County Sheriff’s Office, but he failed to do so, the affidavit alleged.
At the time of his arrest on the Payne County charge in January, Chadwick was living on S. Highway 177, Perkins, court records show.
