(Stillwater, Okla.) — A 23-year-old Stillwater man originally incarcerated on misdemeanor counts of obstruction of an officer and drug possession on Jan. 24, has been charged with punching another prisoner in the head in the Payne County Jail, court records show.
Bail for the defendant, Eric Dean Hambrick, now accused of aggravated assault and battery on the injured prisoner, has been increased to a total of $85,000, court records show. Hambrick has been scheduled to appear before a judge on March 2 when he can seek a preliminary hearing on the felony charge.
The injured prisoner had blood coming from his mouth and on his clothing when he was removed from a cell in the Payne County Jail at 4:42 p.m. on Jan. 27, according to an affidavit by Sheriff’s Deputy Boomer Jones.
The victim was examined by a jail nurse, who sent him to the Stillwater Medical Center where a CT scan “showed an open mandible fracture on the left side,” the affidavit said. The nurse noted that he had a one-inch laceration on the top of his head in her medical assessment at the jail, the affidavit said.
