(Cushing, Okla.)    Robert Felts, Worshipful Master, and Terry Maxwell, Junior Warden, of Cushing Lodge #111, admire a plaque received from Prevent Blindness Oklahoma naming the local lodge as Prevent Blindness Oklahoma’s “Lodge of the Year” for 2011.  (See photo)  Joining Felts and Maxwell is Ms. Lesley Snyder, a staff member and screener for PBO.  Ms. Snyder nominated the Cushing Lodge for their support and providing volunteers to assist in vision screening in all four of Cushing’s elementary schools and Pre-K center, plus the elementary school in Yale, Oklahoma.  Members of the Cushing Lodge attend training seminars to receive certification that permits them to assist in the PBO screenings.  For several years the Cushing Lodge has had 100% staffing support of the vision screenings done in Cushing and Yale.

The picture was taken at the Wilson Pre-K Center this past Monday (November 14) where approximately 140 four and five year olds were given vision screening tests.  Prior to the visit to Wilson Pre-K Center the four elementary schools in Cushing received screenings for grades K-5 earlier this fall.  Prevent Blindness Oklahoma provides vision screening to Head Start Programs, Pre-K Centers, and elementary schools in all 77 counties in Oklahoma representing over 1000 site visits.
