(Stillwater) — OSU Football Player Brandon Pettigrew has a March 3rd court appearance in connection with the alleged assault on a Stillwater Police Officer. Pettigrew made his initial court appearance Tuesday in Payne County District Court on a felony charge of Assault and Battery on a Police officer, and a misdemeanor charge of public intoxication.

Pettigrew was one of several people asked to leave a private residence after an altercation about 1:20 AM Sunday in Stillwater. Police say Pettigrew refused to leave, and later elbowed a Stillwater Police officer in the chest. Pettigrew was arrested and booked into the Stillwater City Jail before being transferred to the Payne County jail. He was released about 10:00 AM Sunday.

Pettigrew, 22, pleaded not guilty to the charges and was ordered to make another appearance March 3rd by Special District Judge Michael Stano.

Pettigrew announced last week he would return to OSU for his senior season, rather than make himself available for the NFL draft. In the 2007 season, Pettigrew, a tight end for the Cowboys, caught 35 passes for 540 yards and 4 touchdowns.

OSU Head Football Coach Mike Gundy has not commented on the allegations against Pettigrew, although an OSU spokesman said that Gundy was aware of the situation. Gundy was reportedly out of town on a recruiting trip.
