On November 17, 2018 just after midnight, Cushing Police Department received a call of shots fired during a domestic disturbance. Payne County Sheriff’s Department deputies were in the area and assisting in the search for the suspect. A deputy located the suspect and vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. The suspect, identified as James Clyde Jenkins, W/M, DOB: 08-08-1976, failed to stop and a pursuit ensued. Near the intersection of 9th St and S Schlegel Rd, Jenkins stopped, pointed a firearm at the deputy and shot multiple times. The deputy returned fire and Jenkins was struck multiple times. The deputy was not injured. Jenkins was transported from the scene via ambulance and is being treated at a hospital in Tulsa. OSBI agents are processing the crime scene, conducting interviews, and will turn their comprehensive report over to the Payne County District Attorney’s Office upon completion. OSBI will not release the name of involved officers unless th ey are charged with a crime.
