(Cushing, Okla.) The Cushing Chamber of Commerce Business After School held their monthly reception today, March 31, 2014.  Business After School is a Chamber program that honors Cushing’s education community.

Each month, one educator, one support staff, and two high school seniors are honored.  A reception is held at 4 p.m. in the Chamber of Commerce obard room on the lat Monday of each school month (with the exception of September and December).  Receptions are open to the public.

This month’s honorees were Makinzie Michael, teacher; Alan Joplin, support personnel; Mason Roberts, CHS senior, and Kira Cox, CHS senior.

Makinzie Michael is a first year teacher employed by the Five Star Interlocal Co-op and works with 3 and 4 year-old special needs children at Wilson School.  Makinzie likes crafting, traveling, playing the piano, and spending time with her boyfriend, Lance.  She graduated from OSU with a bachelor’s degree in speech pathology and is currently earning her master’s degree from OSU in Special Education.

Alan Joplin is the Transportation Director, is married with three children and has five grandchildren.  Alan enjoys photography, sports, fishing and woodworking and is a retired Fire Training Officer.  His favorite food is mexican and would love to travel to Arizona in the springtime.

Kira Cox, CHS senior, likes to read, sing, have fun with friends and spend time with family.  Her favorite food is pretty much anything with chocolate.  She has been singing since she was three years old and now sings in her church choir and praise band.  In fiver years, Kira hopes to have graduated from OSU with her degree in Nutrition and Dietetics, and be in her first year of graduate school.

Mason Roberts, CHS senior, enjoys hanging out with friends and longboarding.  His favorite food is steak.  A book he has read lately was Frankenstein.  When asked where he sees himself in the next five years, he stated, “getting a job.”
