(Stillwater, Okla.) — A Logan County man, who was being sought for failure to appear in court, voluntarily appeared before a judge on Nov. 12 and was jailed on multiple charges of possessing stolen equipment in Perkins, court records show.
If convicted of knowingly concealing at least $2,700 worth of items stolen in Logan County and allegedly pawned in Perkins, Zachary Michael Campbell, 38, of Crescent, could be incarcerated for more than 10 years, court records show.
According to an affidavit by Perkins Police Chief Bob Ernst, since August of 2018 Campbell “pawned or sold approximately 62 items,” in about 37 transactions in Perkins.
A Logan County man had reported that his custom-built welder trailer that was stolen in December of 2019 was located at a Perkins pawn shop on Highway 33 in June, Ernst’s affidavit alleged.
The pawnbroker said that Campbell claimed he had owned the trailer for two years when Campbell sold it on May 20 to the shop, where it was on sale for $1,600 and recovered by the police chief on June 5, the affidavit alleged.
A second Logan County man reported in March of 2019 that while he was gone for a week, 25 items including a Marlin 30-30 rifle were stolen from his property, another affidavit said.
The Perkins police chief noticed on June 8 that Campbell had pawned the same rifle on March 25, 2019, which was later sold to a man who surrendered it when told it was stolen, the affidavit alleged.
A third Logan County man reported that over $11,000 worth of items were stolen in two burglaries of his property between November of 2018 and late December of 2018 or early January of 2019, another affidavit said.
Campbell had sold to the pawn shop in December of 2018 an Echo Bearcat trimmer, a Honda pump, and a jack — all possible matches to the stolen items, the affidavit alleged.
Although the owner did not have the serial numbers, the Perkins police chief was able to confirm that the stolen trimmer and pump had belonged to the Logan County man by contacting the manufacturers and shops where they were sold to the owner for $1,105.74, the affidavit alleged.
On August 19 of this year, the pawnbroker told the police chief that he was certain it was Campbell who pawned the trimmer, pump and jack on Dec. 27, 2018, the affidavit alleged.
