(Payne County, Okla.)  The Payne County Health Department and Breathe Easy Coalition announced today that nine local organizations have been selected as winners of one of the five Certified Healthy Oklahoma award programs. 

The Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH), the Oklahoma Academy, the State Chamber of Oklahoma, and the Oklahoma Turning Point Council recently announced the annual award winners for the state Certified Healthy Oklahoma programs. This year, 1,346 applications were submitted from groups throughout the state, and 1,146 award winners received the “Certified Healthy” status.  

There are five award for programs which organizations can apply. Certified Healthy Business is the most popular. Stillwater Medical Center, Oklahoma State University, the City of Stillwater and both locations of the Payne County Health Department received awards. This year there were no Certified Healthy Restaurants in Payne County. Congratulations to several sites of the Stillwater and Cushing Public School systems on their Certified Healthy Schools status. Oklahoma State University in Stillwater also received the Certified Healthy Campus certification. Lastly, congratulations to Perkins for becoming a Certified Healthy Community. There are three award levels for the Certified Healthy Oklahoma programs: Basic, Merit and Excellence.

Interested organizations can prepare now to become certified in 2014.  Online applications will be available on Aug. 1, 2014. Criteria for certification can be found on the Oklahoma Turning Point Council website at www.okturningpoint.org.
