(Cushing, Okla) Jim Pickard, President of the local Lions Club International, called the meeting to order today at 12:22 p.m. The agenda started with song and pledge by Lion Jerry Snyder. This was followed by prayer requests for local families along with prayer by Kathleen Leithner.
Pickard told the club that he had received a thank you letter from Harmony School for the Cushing Lions Club book presentation which was on March 10th, 2015. The presentation consisted of 18 hardback books for age Pre-K through 5th grade and was given out at Harmony School to a total of three separate schools. Special thanks was given to Lion Kevin Clouse who worked with both the Lions Club and the schools to promote Children’s Literacy.
The Club was asked to get a list of names together for officers as well as a recommendation for Lions Club President. Names and recommendations need to be turned in by May 15, 2015.Show ’N Tell has agreed to make flyers for Lions Club at no charge. They are hoping to give the flyers out at the Boys Ranch Golf Tournament slated for April 17th, 2015. The cost for the golf event is $300 per team or $75 per player. The Lions are planning to sponsor two teams.
The Lions are still needing delegates from Cushing to attend the Lions convention in Tulsa, Oklahoma on April 25th and April 26th (2015).
Lion Tom Cummings told the club that a recent Spot Vision screening had been held at the Stanley Hupfield Academy, a charter school in the Oklahoma City Public School District. The vision screening showed that about 20 percent of the 71 kids screened had astigmatism or were far sighted.
Lou Griffin mentioned Kerri Marks’ daughter Alex who is the state champion on the vault, bars, beam, floor and she also won the All-Around at the Oklahoma State Championships this past weekend. The Lions are very proud of you Alex. Way to go!
