From the Desk of Rep. John Talley, District 33
(OK House of Representatives) –A couple of weeks ago, I had the pleasure of hosting a group from Perkins-Tryon High School at the State Capitol!
They did a tour of the building, sat in the House Chamber for a while and even got a pretty rare behind-the-scenes tour—a climb up into the dome! It is always so much fun to see the excitement on young peoples’ faces when they come here, many of them for the first time in their life. They get to see what a beautiful building it is, view the wonderful paintings, and hear the story of our state.
I hope that even though they won’t remember every bit of history we tell them throughout the day, they will remember being inspired by walking the halls of a building where important decisions are made that all affect them, even though they may not fully realize it now.
As a reminder, there are many interim studies being held at the Capitol throughout the month of October. Visit okhouse.gov and oksenate.gov to see if there are any upcoming topics you are interested in live-streaming. Studies will conclude in early November.
This past Tuesday, the Stillwater Public Education Foundation (SPEF) held their annual “Celebration of Education” fundraising gala, which I attended with my wife Caryl. SPEF has been working to build strong community connections and support for Stillwater Public Schools for 40 years.
Since its founding, more than $1.8 million has been provided to SPS classrooms through grants and technology initiatives. The gala was a wonderful chance to support them and praise the good work of our educators at SPS. You can find out more about their programs at spef.stillwaterschools.com, and information to support SPS is available there as well!
Before I close, I want to remind everyone that the November 5 general election is quickly approaching! The deadline to register to vote is October 11.
If you have an Oklahoma driver license or state ID, you should be able to register to vote online. If not, you can fill out a voter registration application and mail it to your county election board. Applications are available at your county election board and most tag agencies, libraries and post offices. You can also hand deliver your application and register in person.
The Payne County Election Board is located at 315 W. 6th Ave in Stillwater. The Logan County Election Board is located at 224 E Vilas Ave in Guthrie. Full details about registering, as well as other FAQs, may be found at oklahoma.gov/elections.
Please call my office at (405) 557-7304 or email me at [email protected] if there’s anything I can help with. Thank you for the honor of representing our district.
