(Cushing, Okla.) Cushing Memorial Park will be the place to be this Saturday, Oct. 8th, at the 2011 Festival in the Park, with 28 artists, vendors, activities for the kids, Lions Club Chili Cook-Off and headliner act Jennifer Marriott.
Marriott has been called the “Queen of Blues infused with Rock and Americana.” Her smoky vocals range from a soft whisper to “the stage-rattling power of a gale force wind.” Marriott’s musical story started back at a Jam night hosted in London, Ontario in 1989 and has continued to shows all around the country.
Marriott was born in London, Ontario Canada, and is the youngest of seven children. Her musical education was “a mixed and eclectic bag on genres and influences.” Between her parent’s love of jazz, big band, swing and classical music and her siblings musical tastes which ran the gamut from KISS to Joni Mitchell and Donna Summer, Marriott grew up in a rich environment for developing her individual sound.
“With a voice described as being as soft as a sultry summer breeze to a velvet gritty growl, her music takes the genres of acoustic alternative folk, jazz, blues and rock and artfully blends them to create a truly unique sound.”
The Jennifer Marriott Band will take the stage at approximately noon and after a break at 1 p.m, will return at approximately 1:15 p.m.
Also appearing at Saturday’s Festival will be Kenny Munds. A former lead singer in the 70s for Brush Arbor, Munds now says he’s “just a man with a guitar.” Since being “freed from his addictions in 1990” Munds now spends his life as a “Traveling Music Missionary” sharing his testimony. Munds will take the stage at approximately 2:15 p.m.
The Thrift Store Poets are also scheduled to perform 3:30 p.m. as well as local youth participating in various programs throughout the day.
