(Cushing, Okla.) The following information is based on a preliminary collision report furnished by the Department of Public Safety (DPS).

 

A fatality collision occurred on May 23rd (2018) at approximately 04:59 am on State Highway 33 about 350 feet east of Fairgrounds Road, approximately 2 miles east of Perkins, in Payne County.

 

Tyler Ryba (23) whose address is out of Glencoe was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Impala westbound on State Highway 33 and Karen Nelson (59), with a Stillwater address, was driving a 2014 Chevy Sonic eastbound on State Highway 33. The collision, which occurred in the eastbound lane of State Highway 33, is still under investigation according to the DPS report.

 

Ryba was pinned for approximately 20-25 minutes before being freed by Perkins Fire Department. Ryba was transported by medical helicopter to a trauma center in Oklahoma City where he was admitted. Nelson was pronounced dead at the scene by medical professionals.

 

The DPS report shows that the collision remains under investigation by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol’s Traffic Homicide Unit.
