STILLWATER — A 51-year-old Drumright woman has been ordered to appear in court this week on a Payne County felony charge accusing her of financially exploiting a vulnerable Cushing woman by using her credit card and checking account to make purchases from Amazon, Shein and Walmart between May 13 and July 1 while she was employed as her caretaker.
Rebecca Jean Larson was arrested and released on $7,500 bond on Dec. 11 pending her arraignment, court records show. She could be given as much as a 10-year prison term and a $10,000 fine if convicted of financial exploitation of a vulnerable adult in the case investigated by Cushing Police Officer Sara Reynolds.
On Aug. 28 an Adult Protective Services specialist with the state Department of Human Services had contacted the Cushing police officer, according to an affidavit filed with the charge last week.
The victim “was suffering from health issues and was currently bound to a bed and unable to walk,” the affidavit said. The victim “hired a caretaker by the name of Rebecca Larson to come to her residence and help take care of her and her needs,” the affidavit said.
The victim “began seeing charges to her credit card that either she did not authorize or seemed to be more than she did authorize,” the affidavit alleged. The victim “was having issues with her eyesight at the moment due to her health problems, so she would provide Rebecca with a blank check to run errands, but she would never get a receipt,” the affidavit alleged.
One of the victim’s relatives said that “after they began investigating, they realized (the victim) had paid for Rebecca’s camping trip without their (relative) knowing. She said “on a Walmart order that Rebecca insisted on going to the store to pick up, there were food items that (the victim) does not eat, such as fruit snacks. She also said there was a purchase of 150 Styrofoam plates that there is no way her (relative) could have gone through by herself so quickly, and that her (relative) has never used Styrofoam,” the affidavit alleged.
When the Cushing officer went to the victim’s residence on Aug. 28, she said “she was just wanting back what Rebecca took. She also went on to say that she paid for Rebecca’s vacation, yet she has a lot of medical bills to pay for. She said that since Rebecca took that from her, it’s been ruining her life. She went on to inform me that she is taking fusion treatments and they are expensive.
“She then said her eyes are bad from being in the hospital and something had happened to them, so she was unable to read at this time….She said she receives notifications on her phone when her card is used and she would receive a notification for a camping light, and there were also several items sent to her house that no one would use.
“She expressed how she is starting to fall into financial hardship due to her medical bills and would potentially have to sell her home. She also informed me she had other items missing from around the house…she said an Apple watch, a Amazon Fire tablet, her HP laptop and some shelves,” the Cushing officer alleged in her affidavit.
“On Sept. 1, 2025, Rebecca came to the Cushing Police Department to speak with me. In summary, Rebecca told me that (the victim) allowed her to order everything she did and was simply forgetting that she gave her permission. I asked Rebecca if (the victim) had any prior memory issues, and she told me that she was.
“I asked Rebecca if she had any kind of proof, such as text messages or receipts, showing where (the victim) had given her permission or was having memory loss. Rebecca said she did; she had text messages between her and (the victim’s relative) discussing it,” the Cushing officer alleged in her affidavit.
When the Cushing officer spoke on the phone on Sept. 2, 2025, with the victim’s relative, she “became upset and stated that her (relative) has not been having memory issues but was confused because of Rebecca,” the affidavit alleged.
The victim’s relative said that “she has not been having memory issues this whole time and that Rebecca was simply trying to use that to lie once again,” the affidavit alleged.
