(Stillwater, Okla.) — A 27-year-old Cushing woman, who has been freed on $20,000 bail, has been ordered to appear in court on Sept. 9 when she can seek a preliminary hearing on a charge of possessing methamphetamine with intent to distribute in Stillwater.
If convicted of her felony drug charge, Norma Jeneen Sutterfield could be given as much as a seven-year prison term and a $100,000 fine. If convicted of a misdemeanor count of possessing a loaded syringe and working digital scales with residue, Sutterfield could also be given a one-year jail term and $1,000 fine.
Sutterfield was a passenger in a gold Chevrolet Impala that was stopped on W. 6th Avenue in Stillwater after the driver allegedly failed to signal 100 feet prior to a lane change, an affidavit said.
During the traffic stop, Sutterfield began having furtive movements and dig in her pants, Stillwater Police Officer Newly McSpadden alleged in an affidavit.
Detective Brett Moore asked Sutterfield “when the last time she had used, and she stated she had only smoked marijuana,” the affidavit alleged.
“I retrieved my state-certified K9 Jaro and had him conduct a free air examination around the vehicle,” during which Jaro indicated the presence of the odor of illegal drugs coming from inside the car, Officer McSpadden alleged in his affidavit.
During an ensuing search, Detective Moore “notified me the purse belonging to Sutterfield contained a loaded syringe and working digital scales with residue,” Officer McSpadden alleged in his affidavit.
After she was arrested, Sutterfield said she had methamphetamine in her wallet, which turned out to be two baggies, the affidavit alleged.
“Through my training and experience, I have learned simple drug users do not regularly carry digital scales in their possession.
“Due to the loaded syringe with 15 units, the two prepackaged baggies of methamphetamine, the working digital scales with residue, and the fact that Norma stated she had only used marijuana, I believe Norma Sutterfield is distributing methamphetamine,” Officer McSpadden alleged in his affidavit.
