(Stillwater, Okla.) — A Cushing man — who is a convicted child molester — has been jailed on $250,000 bail on charges of armed robbery, auto burglary and being a felon in possession of a pistol.

Aaron Scott Halencak, 27, was arraigned from the Payne County Jail Wednesday and ordered to appear in court on Feb. 3 when he can ask for a preliminary hearing on the three-count felony charge.

Halencak was charged Wednesday with robbing a clerk at the Maveric Mini Mart convenience store on Cherry Street in Cushing with a chrome and black semi-automatic pistol on Dec. 20 — when he also allegedly broke into a truck parked at Bill’s E-Z Out on Main Street in Cushing.

Halencak was charged with an additional count of illegally possessing a semi-automatic pistol on Dec. 20 after having been convicted of the felony of sex with a minor child in Fresno County, California.

If convicted of armed robbery, Halencak could receive a minimum prison sentence of five years. If convicted of his two additional counts, Halencak could receive an additional maximum penalty of 20 years in prison, court records show.

Halencak was arrested on Jan. 24 after Cushing Police Chief Tully Folden and Sgt. Adam Harp conducted a follow-up interview with him at a Stillwater residence regarding the armed robberies of the Maveric Mini Mart and the Steer Inn Family Restaurant, a news release said.

Halencak has not been charged in connection with the Steer Inn Restaurant robbery — which remains under investigation, Sgt. Harp told KUSH today.

According to the news release, “During the interview, Halencak confessed to being the person responsible for the armed robbery of the Maveric Mini Mart store on the night of Dec. 20, 2013,” and the vehicle burglary in Cushing the same day.
