(Stillwater, Okla.) — A 38-year-old Cushing man accused of hitting his ex-girlfriend in the face with a guitar, pushing her to the ground by her throat, and choking her has been ordered to appear in court with an attorney on April 29 to face a felony domestic violence charge.
Aaron Leigh Britton remains free on $10,000 bail with an order to have no contact with the woman, court records show. Britton could be given a prison term of one to three years if convicted of domestic assault and battery by strangulation.
Following a 911 call from his ex-girlfriend, Britton was arrested at 4:25 pm on March 22 after being located in a truck by Payne County Sheriff’s Deputies Nack and Barnes, according to an affidavit by Deputy Scott Hopper.
Britton’s ex-girlfriend said “Aaron had moved out approximately a month prior and was seeing another woman,” the affidavit said.
She said “Aaron and her were texting back and forth and that Aaron was going to come to the residence and get his property, and she told him no, not until the landlord could be present also to keep things peaceful,” but he texted that he was coming anyway, the affidavit alleged.
She said “Aaron showed up at the residence; he tried to come into the residence through the front door, but she locked it so he couldn’t. She states that is when Aaron went to the back door and threw a hammer through the back glass and gained entry into the residence,” the affidavit alleged.
She said they were arguing while he was getting some of his property and “while doing so, she states that Aaron hit her in the head with a guitar,” the affidavit alleged.
She said “she made several attempts to get away from Aaron, but he would not let her,” the affidavit alleged.
She said “at one point, Aaron grabbed her around the throat with one hand and pushed her down on the ground where all the broken glass was, and that Aaron proceeded to strangle her until ‘I felt like everything was going black and I was going to pass out,"” the affidavit alleged.
She said “while on the ground, Aaron was using his knee to help hold her down by leaning on her with his knee,” the affidavit alleged.
She had a dark spot on her eye that appeared to be bruising, redness around her wrists, and a small red mark on the left side of her neck, the affidavit said.
“There were several items thrown around the living room, one of the couches had been flipped over, and I could see broken glass on the floor by the back door with a hammer laying on the floor,” the deputy wrote in his affidavit. “Also the window on the back door was completely shattered out,” the affidavit said.
