STILLWATER — A 51-year-old Cushing man accused of bashing his girlfriend’s head on the floor was ordered at his arraignment on Oct. 15 before Special District Judge Jill Ochs to have no contact with the woman as a condition of his $10,000 bond pending his return to court on Dec. 15.
Due to his criminal convictions for burglary in Drumright in 2020 and domestic violence in Payne County in 2022, Christopher Paul Garwood could be given as much as a 10-year prison term if found guilty of domestic assault and battery as a second offense, court records show.
Cushing Police Officer Mandy Wright alleged in an affidavit that she was sent to a house on Oak Street at 10:12 pm on Sept. 22 “regarding a physical domestic in progress.
“Dispatch advised that a female was advising, ‘I’m trapped in this house, and he won’t let me out. I’m in the back bedroom. He’s looking at me, and he doesn’t know I’m talking on the phone.
“The female can be heard saying ‘ow, ow,’ along with scuffling noise. A male voice, identified as Christopher Garwood, can be heard saying ‘you’ll go to jail too.’ The call was then disconnected.
“Dispatch called the phone back, and Garwood refused to communicate, and what sounded like someone running could be heard on the phone.
“Upon my arrival, I made contact with (the victim). She informed me that Christopher Garwood had punched her several times. She stated that Christopher had taken off running when she was able to call 911.”
The victim had bruising on her left shoulder, right jawline, both of her legs, both sides of her neck, the back of her neck and her eyes; her lips had what appeared to be dried blood on them. Her left hand was bruised, and the skin on her ring finger was broken. She also had scratches on her face, legs and arms, the affidavit said.
“She informed me that Christopher had bashed her head on the floor and told her that she wasn’t going to be able to leave. She put a hand around her neck in a choking manner and made a fist movement to the side of her head while she explained where Christopher had placed his hands,” the Cushing officer alleged in her affidavit.
The victim was taken to Hillcrest Hospital in Cushing via Cushing EMS, the affidavit said.
“While at the emergency room, she stated that Christopher told her to leave, then proceeded to keep her in the residence. She told me that Christopher said, ‘You’re off for three days. No one will be looking for you. We are going to have a lot of fun the next three days,” the Cushing officer alleged in her affidavit.
“Officers were unable to contact Christopher at the time of the incident,” on Sept. 22, the affidavit said.
