(CUSHING, OKLA.) – Cushing letter carriers collected more than 3,400 pounds of non-perishable food items during the 30th annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive on Saturday, May 14. Along with the Perkins and Stillwater, more than 18,000 pounds of food were collected in Payne County.
“These donations are more important than ever,” Ruth Cavins, United Way of Payne County executive director, said. “This supply will help our local food pantries sustain during the summer months and provide for families, children and individuals in need.”
Cushing letter carriers collected donations from residents during their mail routes on May 14. The donations were sent to the Cushing Community Food Pantry. Those in need of food assistance can visit the food pantry on the second Tuesday of each month at 802 N. Maitlen Dr., Cushing. The pantry opens at 8:30 a.m. A valid ID and proof of Cushing residence is required. For more information, contact 918-225-4790.
The Cushing Community Food Pantry served 88 families in April alone. The United Way of Payne County helps promote the food drive, held on the second Saturday in May each year. They invest donated dollars in their 22 nonprofit, partner agencies to improve the health, education and financial stability of every citizen in Payne County.
