The Cushing Chamber of Commerce Business After School honoring January recipients was held on Monday, January 25, 2016. Business After School is a Chamber program that honors Cushing’s education community.

Each month, one educator, one support staff and two high school seniors are honored. A reception is held at 4 p.m. in the Cushing Chamber of Commerce board room the last Monday of each school month (with the exception of September and December). Receptions are open to the public.

Those honored for the month of January were: Don Amon, teacher; Audra Bullock, support staff, Mackenzie McKnight, CHS senior; Cristian Marshall, CHS senior.

A little bit about the honorees:

Don Amon was selected as the teacher of the month. Don is married to Melissa Amon and they have two sons, Zach – 22 and Zane – 17. His special interests and hobbies include improvisation, playing music and “doing what Melissa tells me!” He attends First United Methodist Church where he plays in the church band. Don states that he enjoys serving as a Cushing City Commissioner, his favorite food is pizza and his greatest joy as a teacher has been meeting and getting to the know the hundreds of kids over the years and watching them succeed or follow their passions.

Audra Bullock is the support staff of the month. Her husband of 8 years is Ty and they have three children, Bryce, Jayce and Shaylee. She loves to read in her spare time, spend time with her family and attends First Baptist Church. If she could take a trip anywhere, she would like to take a trip to Europe and visit anything involving World War II. Audra said the greatest joy in her job is getting to know the kids.

Mackenzie McKnight, CHS senior, is the daughter of Steve and Kim McKnight. She enjoys dancing and has been the captain or co-captain of the CHS dance team for the last 3 years and have won state two years in a row. Mackenzie is also a member of the First Baptist Church and the National Honors Society. She spends most of her time dancing but in her free time, she loves to babysit. She sees herself in five years having her bachelor’s degree in physical therapy and continuing on to graduate school to obtain a Master’s at Oklahoma State University.

Cristian Marshall, CHS senior, is the son of Tammy Maxwell and Yanscv Marshall. His likes to play sports: football, wrestling, throw in track and soccer. He attends Council Valley Baptist Church and is a part of the Interoot Club. Cristian is the team captain for the CHS wrestling team. His favorite food is spaghetti and enjoys spending the days hanging out with friends playing video games and outside sports. In five years, Cristian sees himself in his first year of medical school at OU’s Medical program working towards getting his degree as a licensed pediatrician.
