(Cushing, Okla.) The Cushing Chamber of Commerce Business After School reception was held Monday, April 27, 2015. Business After School is a Chamber program that honors Cushing’s education community.
Each month, one educator, one support staff and two high school seniors are honored and the reception is held at 4 p.m. in the Cushing Chamber of Commerce board room on the last Monday of each month (with the exception of September and December). Receptions are open to the public.
The April honorees were: Stoney Matheson, CHS teacher; Cathy Branyan,CMS support personnel; Abby Pool, CHS senior and Matt Clift, CHS senior.
A little bit about the honorees:
Ashley Bryan teaches Algebra 1 and Pre-Calculas at Cushing High School. He has been married to his “high school sweetheart” Michelle for 17 years. His hobbies include gardening, 4-wheeling, fishing and sports. Stoney says his real passion is music. He enjoys writing music and playing the guitar and piano. His greatest joy as a teacher is seeing a former students tell him that they have been able to apply the skills they learned while in his class.
Cathy Branyan is a Title VII Indian Ed Teacher Assistant at Cushing Middle School. She is married to Tyson Branyan and they have two children. She also has a brand new granddaughter. Her interests are gardening and quilting. Cathy also is a board member and cook for Peace, Bread and Joy and has been the Director of the Cushing Arts and Humanities Council’s Summer Art Camp for 20 years.
Abby Pool, CHS senior, likes to paint, write and play soccer. Her favorite food is “all of them” but specifically peanut butter. If she could spend the day with anyone, it would be her great-grandmother. Abby states that she loves to help people and try to offer solutions to one’s problems. She sees herself attend Oklahoma State University, majoring in Biology and being accepted into PT or medical school.
Matthew Clift, CHS senior, enjoys longboarding, soccer and football. His favorite food is pizza and would love to spend the day with Kevin Hart. Matthew has started as the left guard for the Cushing High School Tiger football team three years in a row. In the next five years, he sees himself with a long-term girlfriend and a job that he enjoys, yet can also provide for his family.
