(Stillwater, Okla.) — A Crescent man — who is being held in the Logan County Jail on three counts of child sexual abuse — has been charged in Payne County with raping and molesting a 15-year-old babysitter when he lived in Cushing in 2008.
Michael John Silvers, 51, could be sentenced to 95 years in prison if convicted of all of his charges in Payne and Logan Counties, court records show.
Cushing Police Detective Adam Harp wrote in an affidavit filed Friday that during an investigation of Silvers, Logan County Sheriff’s Detective Tom Kutay learned “another victim has come forward stating she was sexually assaulted by Michael.”
In Logan County last year, Silvers was charged with three counts of lewd acts to a minor, one of whom was a 7-year-old female relative and another was a 14-year-old babysitter, the affidavit alleged.
A now 19-year-old woman told the Cushing police detective that when she was 15 she babysat for Silvers at his then-residence in the 1200 block of E. Third Street in Cushing, the affidavit said.
She said that during February or April of 2008, she was babysitting Silvers’ two younger children, then ages 3 and 4, at his Cushing residence — so that he could work, the affidavit said. Silvers’ wife had attempted to commit suicide in Texas, the affidavit said.
She said that on the day that she was sexually assaulted, Silvers had come home early from work, the affidavit alleged. She said she had babysat for Silvers about eight previous times before the assault, the affidavit alleged.
She said “when Michael came home that she was in his bedroom on the computer and that the children were in the room with her,” the affidavit alleged.
She said that “Michael took both children and took them into the bathroom and put them in the bathtub and started the bath water,” the affidavit alleged.
She said that he came back into the bedroom and molested her, the affidavit alleged. She said that he left the room and turned off the bathtub water before returning to the bedroom where he again molested her, the affidavit alleged.
She said that she told him to stop, but that he would not and then raped her, the affidavit alleged. She said that he attempted to anally rape her, but that she screamed and cried, so he stopped and left her alone, the affidavit alleged.
She said “Michael told her not to tell anyone what happened,” the affidavit alleged.
She said that she never babysat for him again after she was sexually assaulted, the affidavit alleged.
She said “she was never alone around Michael again because she was scared of what he might do to her again,” the affidavit alleged.
Asked why she did not tell anyone about the assault, “she said that she was scared to say anything,” the affidavit alleged.
When the Cushing police detective went to the Logan County Jail in an attempt to interview Silvers last fall, he “did not want to talk with me about the investigation,” and so was released back to jail staff, the affidavit said.
