(Stillwater, Okla.) — A couple, whose Stillwater apartment was searched on a warrant issued by the district judge, have been charged with possessing marijuana and psilocybin mushrooms with intent to distribute, a felony punishable by five years to life in prison and a maximum fine of $100,000 on conviction.

Jason Michael Voskuhl, 20, and Jessica Dawn Root, 21, were initially jailed on $50,000 bail each, but released on bond after their bail was reduced to $15,000 each.

Voskuhl and Root have been ordered to appear in court on March 4 when they can seek a preliminary hearing.

The couple were arrested at 10:40 a.m. on Jan. 18 at their apartment, which was breached with a ram after no one answered the front door, Stillwater Police Officer Josh Carson wrote in an affidavit.

“I attempted to speak with Jason, but as I spoke he shook his head from side to side indicating to me he did not wish to speak with me. Jessica stated she was aware of the drugs in the house, but had nothing to do with the drug sales,” the officer alleged in his affidavit.

“In the downstairs bedroom where Jessica and Jason were found in bed, I found a closet lined in construction plastic” that had two large clear bags containing rye seed, the officer alleged in his affidavit.

“I know these bags are used to grow psilocybin mushrooms,” which are very toxic, as well as their spores, the officer alleged in his affidavit.

“The Stillwater Police Department’s property room and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation will not take psilocybin mushroom spores for fear of contamination. I photographed the mushroom grow and took them outside. The grow was later destroyed and no mature mushrooms were inside the grow,” the officer alleged in his affidavit.

In an upstairs bedroom, the officer found 447.3 grams of THC wax, as well as scales, baggies, and other paraphernalia, his affidavit alleged.

The officer allegedly found two zip lock bags full of psilocybin mushrooms, with a total weight of 60.8 grams, that were dried and ready for consumption, the affidavit said.

Near the drugs, the officer allegedly found $3,643 hidden in a book modified to hold a lockable safe, according to his affidavit.

The owner of the Stillwater residence in the 9100 block of W. Lakeview was contacted to secure it, the affidavit said.

“Jason requested his lawyer be present before we spoke. Jessica told me she knew Jason was selling drugs, but did not know what to do about it,” the officer alleged in his affidavit.
