(Cushing, Okla.)  Mary Barton, Computer Science teacher at Cushing High School was recently the guest of Rotarian of the Day Dennis Tull.  Barton, joined by two of her Business Professionals of America (BPA) students Kaitlyn Hull and Ashley Johnson, spoke to Rotarians about several of their projects.

Hull’s project of choice is a coat drive.  The drive is sponsored by Cushing High School BPA in conjunction with Love INC.  Anyone wishing to donate a gently used coat to be distributed to those in need, can drop them off in the Cushing High School Library.  BPA will benefit monetarily for each armload of coats received.  Drop-off deadline:  Oct. 1st.

Johnson’s project is even more far-reaching – Freedom Boxes – supplies for our troops overseas.

Suggested items:

Personal items:

Baby Wipes (small travel size), Chapstick or Lip Balm, eyewash, foot powder, Hand Sanitizer, Paper Disk Mask,

Razors, roll on or stick deodorant, socks (white, grey or black

Sunglasses,.

Foods and Drinks:

Candy, gum and mints (wrapped, single sizes), Crystal Light drink sticks, Drink Mixes – Gatorade, Kool-aid (dry poder only – no liquids), snack foods (single size servings), tea bags

Luxury Items:

AA or AAA batteries, handheld games, Frisbees, small play items, playing cards, paperback books (mystery, thriller, and dramas are much appreciated)

The Freedom Boxes will be given to Blue Star Mothers of America, Inc. – Chapter One in Tulsa who will in turn send them to our troops.  Deadline for items for the Freedom Boxes is Dec. 1st.  For more information on Blue Star Mothers of America in Oklahoma, visit www.okbluestarmothers.org/
