Big Brothers Big Sisters is the nation’s premier mentoring agency and we are doing big things in Payne County! Last year the lives of 142 children were changed by a caring mentor that took the time to include a child in their every day activities. This year we have already served over 100 children and we want to match 100 more with your help. Last year we started the School Based Program at Deep Rock Elementary. The result was 12 Cushing High School students making a difference in the lives of 12 elementary students. It is amazing the difference just one our can make to impact a child for a lifetime.
We currently have a big need for Big Brothers. We have several Little Brothers at Deep Rock who were not matched up last year. We are asking the community to give back to our Little’s at Deep Rock. Volunteering takes only one hour a week. You can play a game of catch with your Little, help with homework or help out with an art project. Our matches are made based on compatibility and are supported for the duration of the match. Anyone interested can be interviewed in Cushing so that they will be ready to start off the school year in August with a Little Brother or Little Sister in need of a mentor.
Perhaps you would like to help out in some other way. We currently have open positions on our Board of Advisors. If you have no time to donate, we also take cash. It cost about $1,000 to match and support a child for a year. Our program is free of charge for the volunteers and the families we serve, thus financial support is also needed and appreciated. A financial gift will also be matched up to $10,000!
