(Stillwater, Okla.) — Bail was increased from $1,000 to $5,000 on Thursday for a Cushing man accused of threatening his ex-girlfriend with a large hunting knife on April 23 at his home where she had previously lived, court records show.
Special District Judge Michael Kulling, who raised the bail on the argument of prosecutor Kevin Etherington, admonished Robert Eugene Stallings Jr., 32 that he must not have any contact with the woman, who had obtained an emergency protective order against him on April 23, court records show.
Stallings remains in the Payne County Jail pending a May 6 court appearance at which he can seek a preliminary hearing on the felony charge of domestic assault with a dangerous weapon, which carries up to 10 years in prison on conviction.
Stallings was arrested by Cushing Police Officer Jack Ford at 12:47 p.m. on April 23 at his residence on W. Vine Street, court records show.
“Once I told him what I was arresting him for, he stated, ‘I told her to leave and you have no witness,"” the officer alleged in his affidavit.
The woman told the officer that she had been at Stallings’ house when “she told Stallings in a joking manner, ‘I hate you,"” the affidavit alleged.
She said, “Stallings grabbed her by the neck and started choking her. Stallings then threw (her) against the wall and she fell to the floor and Stallings then got on top of her and held a large hunting knife to her throat and chest and stated, ‘I’ll kill you,"” the affidavit alleged.
The officer could see finger marks around the woman’s neck and bruising on her chin, the affidavit alleged.
When the Cushing officer called the Wings of Hope in Stillwater, an advocate talked to the woman for a short time, the affidavit said.
The woman “told me that she and Stallings were not in a dating relationship at this time,” the officer wrote in his affidavit.
When two Cushing officers went to Stallings’ residence, “we did make contact with Stallings out in the driveway where he appeared to be putting trash in his trash can,” the officer wrote in his affidavit.
