While the ride may nearly be over for 2008 Rodeo Queen, Sierra Underwood, it’s been a good one.

“It’s opened doors and given me opportunities I would never had expected,” Sierra said softly.  While she may not be a boisterous speaker, her enthusiasm comes through when you mention horses.

“I love horses,” Sierra said, smiling.  “I’m still looking forward to becoming a barrel racer.”

Sierra, now 14, lives in Claremore with her dad, Byron Underwood, but often visits mom and step-dad, Stacey and Pat O’Kelley of Cushing.

She’s an active member of FFA and is showing pigs.  “Yes, I’m all about pigs, now,” she said with a chuckle.  A great first step in fulfilling another of her dreams – Sierra plans on attending Oklahoma State University and becoming a veterinarian.

And who knows?  We just may see her again someday, sporting a crown and wearing a sash.

The 2009 Cushing Community PRCA Rodeo Queen will be crowned at the rodeo, Saturday, July 11th.
