STILLWATER — A 46-year-old Stillwater man has been accused of attempting to hit a juvenile pedestrian in Glencoe by putting his Ford Escape in reverse and driving rapidly toward the boy.
Nathan Paul Spaulding was arrested by Payne County Sheriff’s Deputy Steven Bloomer at 1:55 pm on Sept. 22 and released from the Payne County Jail the following day on $10,000 bond with an order to have no contact with the boy, court records show.
Spaulding was arraigned on a felony charge of assault with a dangerous weapon punishable by up to 10 years in prison on conviction. He was ordered to return to court with an attorney on Nov. 24.
Deputy Bloomer had been sent to Glencoe Town Hall at 11:51 am on Sept. 22 on a report of a reckless driver, according to his affidavit.
“En route to Glencoe, I contacted Deputy Zanfardino to see if he was on duty and to see what information he had. Deputy Zanfardino stated he was off duty but had camera footage of a vehicle trying to run over (a boy).
“Deputy Zanfardino forwarded the video to my agency-issued cell phone,” which had been sent to him by a witness, Deputy Bloomer alleged in his affidavit. The witness said “she stuck her head out because she heard a car driving by fast.
“She stated Nathan Spaulding was in his silver vehicle while (the boy) was walking down the street. I then stated I had seen the video. She identified the driver of the silver vehicle as Nathan Spaulding. The video shows a silver vehicle driving past (the boy) and leaving the frame.
“The vehicle then backs up in reverse at a high rate of speed and goes into the ditch, attempting to hit (the boy), who ran out of the way and was not injured,” Deputy Bloomer alleged in his affidavit.
When the boy arrived at Glencoe Town Hall, “I asked him who tried to run him over, and he stated Nathan. I then left town hall and made contact with Nathan, who was walking southbound on or about Oklahoma and Shell in Glencoe.
“Nathan stated he did not try to run (the boy) over. Nathan stated that (the boy) threatened Nathan, and Nathan threatened (the boy) right back. Nathan stated that (the boy) told Nathan, ‘I am gonna f… you up.’ Nathan stated he told (the boy), ‘If you’re gonna f… with me, I’m gonna kill ya.’
“I informed Nathan he would be going to jail for threats and trying to run over a juvenile with his vehicle. Nathan cooperated fully,” Deputy Bloomer alleged in his affidavit.
