By Representative John Talley, District 33

(Oklahoma City, OK) — As we prepare for the next legislative session, I want to highlight an exciting opportunity for high school juniors and seniors: the Oklahoma House of Representatives High School Page Program.

Students serving as a page work in the House Chamber during daily sessions, assist representatives and House staff with tasks, and participate in the House Page Mock Legislature on the floor of the House Chamber. Pages are assigned for one week, Monday through Thursday, during the legislative session, which runs from the first Monday in February through the last Friday in May.

Each year, juniors and seniors from all over the state take part in the House High School Page Program at the Oklahoma State Capitol, and in the past, many students from House District 33 have participated.

The Page Program is a tremendous opportunity for students to see how state government works. I encourage any interested students to submit their applications as soon as possible, as there are a limited number of spots available every week.

Hotel accommodations and chaperones are provided for all students. House Pages are transported daily to and from the Capitol and are always closely supervised.

Another exciting opportunity the House offers is the Internship Program. During the past few sessions, I have had interns working with my office, and I enjoy giving them a first-hand look at the legislative process.

The Internship Program is available for students enrolled for credit at a college or university.

During the internship, students will be assigned to work with legislators or staff members based on their interests and goals. Interns will research policy issues, draft correspondence, attend committee meetings and floor sessions, and work on various office projects.

Applications for the Internship Program should be submitted by the last Friday in December for the upcoming spring session.

To submit an application or learn more about the Page or Internship Program, visit former.okhouse.gov/Internship/Index.aspx and former.okhouse.gov/Pages/ or contact my office for more information.
