STILLWATER, Okla. — New students attending Meridian Technology Center have the chance to get a jump-start on becoming Meridian Made on August 12 with New Student Orientation.
“We want new students who are attending Meridian to feel like they are a part of the school from day one,†said Jeanie Zagar, Director of the Career Planning Center at Meridian. “Our New Student Orientation experience gives students a chance to become familiar with campus and what their schedule will be while they are studying at Tech.â€
Classes for Meridian Technology Center start on August 14, and new students and their families are invited to come to campus and become familiar with their classroom, campus and Meridian staff.
Students will have an opportunity to learn about student organizations, sign up for bus transportation and get their parking sticker.
“This is an informal event where students and parents have time to talk with instructors and other Meridian staff to be better prepared for their first day of classes,†Zagar explained. “It’s also a great chance for students and parents alike to further explore the opportunities available at Meridian such as earning academic and college credit and job opportunities after graduation.â€
The New Student Orientation event will be held on August 12 from 3 — 6 pm. Students are asked to enter through the main entrance. Meridian staff will be available to assist them in locating their classroom.
The Meridian Technology Center district includes people living in communities served by Agra, Carney, Glencoe, Guthrie, Morrison, Mullhall-Orlando, Pawnee, Perkins-Tryon, Perry and Stillwater school districts. High school students in these communities are able to attend Meridian at no cost with books provided once school starts. Free transportation is also available with pickup locations at district high schools.
High school students attend Meridian either in the morning or afternoon session and are eligible for high school and college credit in many programs. Last year one in five district high school students attended Meridian for skills training.
Adult students have the option to complete a career training program in a 1- or 2-year option. They are responsible for their own transportation and educational expenses. Financial aid is available for those who qualify.
