(Cushing, Okla.)  Cushing Chamber of Commerce held a reception Monday, January 27, 2014 for Business After School honorees for the month of January.  Business After School is a Chamber program that honors Cushing’s education community.

Each month one educator, one support staff, and two high school seniors are honored.  A reception is held at 4 p.m. in the Cushing Chamber of Commerce board room on the last Monday of each school month (with the exception of September and December.)  Receptions are open to the public.

January’s honorees were:  Tamy Ailey, teacher; Debbie Baumert, support personnel; Jessica Niccum, CHS senior; Brett Anderson, CHS senior.

Superintendent Koln Knight made the presentations.

Tamy Ailey has a daughter, Hannah, a sophomore at CHS, and a son, Trevor, a 7th grader at CMS.  Tamy is a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Cushing.  She keeps the books/stats for the 7th, 8th and high school boys’ basketball.  She enjoys watching her kids and students play sports and love to read.  Her greatest joy as a teacher is when “I get hugs from high school seniors and they tell me thank you for helping me in 8th grade.”

Debbie Baumert has been married to her husband, John for 28 years in August.  They have two daughters, Alex and Abby.  Debbie enjoys snow skiing, traveling and watching college wrestling.  She is a member of the Crosspointe Church in Stillwater where her husband is the pastor.  She works with Cowboys with Compassion.  Her greatest joy in her job is the friendships she has made all over the state.

Jessica Niccum, a CHS senior, enjoys playing the piano, spending time with friends, and playing with her nieces and nephews.  Her favorite food is sushi.  The latest book she read was The Hunger Games and said, “I love that it showed that hope is stronger than fear.  If she could spend the day with anyone, it would be her cousin Clayton Kerr.  “He just moved to Michigan and I miss him so much.”

When asked to humbly say what she does really well, she stated, “I think I do well at taking control of chaotic situations.  I’m a very realistic person, so I keep my cool pretty well.”

Her plan for the next 5 years is to be living in Spain or Argentina.
