(Cushing, Okla.) Cushing Chamber of Commerce Director Brent Thompson recently announced there will be 28 artists displaying their talents at this year’s Festival in the Park. Oct. 8th, 2011 will mark the 23rd year for the popular event.
This year’s list boasts 8 new artists including Trevor Aycox of Ardmore.
Trevor’s story is unique, not only because of his medium of choice – spray paint – but also the fact he is a 15 year old boy with Asperger’s – noted as a high functioning form of autism.
According to artismtoday.com/meet-the-artists/, Trevor took up painting in 2007 at age 12 after becoming fascinated with an artist in Galveston who used spray cans to paint. Since then, he has gained a lot of attention at art shows and has been published in the book “Artism: The Art of Autism.”
In an article from hopemagazineonline.com/artism.htm Trevor is quoted as saying, “When I do my art, I see what I can really do. I’m not very good at things like sports that are important around here. It makes me feel good about myself to go past the limits that are set by me or other people.”
