(Cushing, Okla.)  OU medical students, Craig Kupiec, Jeff Samuel, Allie Halford and Kate Denney, were recently the special guests at Rotary Club.  Over Spring Break, they traveled as part of the OUHSC Christian Medical and Dental Association team to Pucallpa, Peru.  Thursday they reported to Rotarians on what they were able to do with a portion of grant monies given to them by the Cushing club.

Kupiec said after participating in the annual clinic, several students had the desire to do more than dispensing prescriptions and providing basic medical services.  They wanted to be able to give the people something practical and long lasting.

Cushing Rotary Club funded a grant for $1500 which has allowed members of the team to produce a brief video that explains in simplest of terms, using cartoon-like characters – the transmission of germs through “field, fluids, food, flies and feces.”

Kupiec said the next step is to create coloring books – with the same basic information, using similar characters – to distribute to the communities they visit.

“We want to thank you for the faith you had in us,” Kupiec said.

Cushing Rotary Club meets each Thursday at noon at Steer Inn Family Restaurant.
