(Cushing, Okla.)   Cushing Rotary Club recently welcomed special guest speaker Mary Gibbons to speak on domestic violence issues as well as the needs of Stillwater Domestic Violence Services(SDVS).  Gibbons is a Victim Advocate for Cushing and Perry.

Gibbons shared a video of testimonials of women who have been helped by Stillwater Domestic Violence Services.  Gibbons pointed out that domestic violence, unfortunately, can be found in every community and in every socio-economic class.

Currently Gibbons position in Cushing and Perry is provided through a one-time grant – a grant that barely covers Gibbons’ salary, let alone any other needs her offices may have.

Some of the things they always need are: old cell phones, toiletry items, clothing vouchers or gift cards and VOLUNTEERS!

Wings of Hope: Stillwater Domestic Violence Services wants to make sure every child has a very merry Christmas this year.  Because many of their shelter and non-shelter clients struggle just to meet their basic needs, let alone provide gives for their little ones, they are asking the community members of Payne and Noble County to help.

Here’s what you can do:

Adopt a family to provide Christmas gifts.

Provide Christmas stockings for indiiduals and children residing in our shelter.

Provide food baskets for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners.

Provide gifts of new toys, books, games, bath and body sets, makeup sets or other items that can be wrapped and given to individuals for Christmas.

Provide children’s and women’s sweat pants, sweat shirts, socks, underwear (all sizes).

Donate Wal-Mart gift cards in increments of $5, $10, $15, $20 and $25 to be used to purchase items that are needed for families.
