(Stillwater, Okla.) -- An arrest warrant was issued Tuesday for a man convicted of rape in Noble County who is accused of failing to register as a sex offender -- following his release from state prison three months ago.

Zackery Mitchell, 25, told authorities that when he got out of prison, he would reside in Stillwater at an apartment in the 300 block of W. 9th Street, Stillwater Police Detective Richard Leport wrote in an affidavit.

However, when the detective went to the small apartment complex of 10 units, "I was unable to locate Zackery Mitchell," he wrote in his affidavit.

The apartment complex manager said that she knew all the tenants, and Mitchell did not reside there, the affidavit said.

"I confirmed that Zackery Mitchell was not registered with the Stillwater Police Department and was not registered in any other jurisdiction," the detective wrote in his affidavit.

The Stillwater Police Department had been notified on Aug. 30 by the Oklahoma Department of Corrections Sex Offender Registration Unit that Mitchell had been recently released and had not responded to an address verification letter, the affidavit said.

Mitchell was convicted of first-degree rape in Noble County in 2006 and given a six-year prison term, of which he served less than five years, state DOC records show.

Mitchell was released on June 24, DOC records show.
